• Clarke's Tea

You might be wondering if there's truly a difference between organic tea and those that have been grown through industrial farming. The answer is a resounding yes! When you choose Clarke's Tea, you're selecting a wholesome and nourishing drink that cares for your body, while using safe and healthy production methods.

Here are a few important reasons that have guided us to an unwavering decision to select only the highest quality of organic ingredients for every single tea sachet.

Have you ever noticed that a carrot from the farmers market tastes so much better than one from the grocery store?

That's because most of the flavors and aromas we get from our foods develop through a naturally occurring plant-based chemical that protects the plant from insects. As Food Scientist Harold McGee explains, "Because they're not protected by pesticides, organic plants that suffer from insect attack can accumulate higher level of flavor chemicals and other protective molecules, including antioxidants." In other words, organically grown herbs and veggies build their own flavorful defence mechanisms since they aren't covered in pesticides.

Furthermore, without chemical fertilizers, organically grown plants develop at a more natural rhythm, giving them more time to develop their innate flavour profile.

According to Choose Canada Organic, “Canada’s organic standards are among the most recognized in the world, and place strict limits and prohibitions on the use of toxic and persistent pesticides; synthetic fertilizers; the routine use of drugs, antibiotics or synthetic hormones; animal cloning; genetic engineering (“GMOs”); sewage sludge (“biosolids”); and irradiation. Organic standards also forbid the use of artificial food colours, flavours, sweeteners, preservatives and many other processing aids and ingredients.”

When we buy conventionally grown vegetables, we can remove some of the synthetic pesticides and fertilizers by washing and peeling our food before we eat it. But when it comes to tea, that's just not possible. As soon as conventional teabags drop into hot water, these harmful chemicals seep into your cup.

But when you choose Clarke's Tea, you guarantee a cup of wholesome tea. Only organic veggies and herbs go into our tea sachets, so you can rest assured that you're getting nutrients and minerals that are free of pesticides, fertilizers, toxins, and heavy metals.

The insecticides, fungicide, pesticides, and chemical fertilizers that go into conventional produce don't just end up on your plate. They seep through the soil and into the groundwater, eventually making their way to larger bodies of waters like lakes and rivers. This pollution not only affects the health of the earth and water, it is passed onto the wildlife that feeds and bathes in the area. In fact, two commonly used pesticides, Malathion and chlorpyrifos, are incredibly harmful to many endangered species.

On the other hand, organic agriculture can actually improve soil and water quality, helping the natural fauna and flora to flourish.

To certify Clarke's Tea as Organic, we had to go through a series of assessments and meet a list of requirements. As the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) explains, "A product can be certified organic if it has been certified by a CFIA accredited certification body to meet the Canadian Organic Standards."

When you buy our delicious teas, you're not only supporting us. You're investing in yourself and the environment while supporting small-scale farmers, their families, and the people they employ! Rest assured. With each cup of Clarke's Tea, you're building a happier, healthier lifestyle for everyone.
